The Indian bowlers led by Jhoolan Goswami staged a great fight as India have made a rollicking comeback to level the series 1-1. Batting first, South Africa were reduced to a paltry 157 runs in 41 overs. Experienced campaigner, Jhoolan Goswami led from the front, claiming 4 wickets in the match. She accounted for the wicket of dangerous Lee in her very first over to give India their first breakthrough. Mansi Joshi then claimed the wickets of Wolvaardt and Sune Luus to leave England reeling at 80 at 3 in 20.4 overs.
Lara Goodall top-scored with 49 off 77. However, she would be disappointed to not have converted it into a big knock. The middle-order couldn’t perform as per the expectations, as South Africa couldn’t even get past the 150-run mark.
Mansi Joshi claimed two important wickets, while Gayakwad too picked three wickets in the match. India, in reply, chased down the total in just 28.4 overs with 9 wickets in hand. Although Jemimah Rodrigues got out cheaply, Smriti Mandhana and Punam Raut ensured India don’t face further hiccups and cruised to the total in the end.
Smriti Mandhana played an unbeaten 80-run knock off 64 balls, while Punam Raut too stayed unbeaten at 62 off 89 balls. With the win, India has now equalized the five-match ODI series 1-1. The third ODI will be played at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday.
