GT vs KKR: Gujarat Kings (GT) registered their sixth win in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 after beating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 8 runs on Saturday at DY Patil Sports Academy.
Riding on a crucial knock from Hardik Pandya, Gujarat managed to score a reasonable total of 156 runs in the first innings. He played a match-winning knock of 67 runs in 49 balls and, thereby, helped the team reach a competitive score of 156 runs on the board.
Tim Southee, on his return, bowled great lengths and finished his spell with bowling figures of 3 for 24 in 4 overs. Andre Russell, on the other hand, bowled only the last over of the innings and picked four wickets in that over and gave just 5 runs.
In reply, Kolkata was restricted to 148 runs, thereby falling 8 runs short of the target. Once again, Gujarat Titans were brilliant with the ball. Shami was super in the powerplay as he sent both the openers back to the hut inside the first three overs of the innings.
Lockie Ferguson then had Nitish Rana caught behind in the 5th over and Yash Dayal picked the wickets of Shreyas Iyer and Rinku Singh to leave Kolkata in trouble at 79 for 5. Venkatesh Iyer (17 off 17) failed to convert the start into a big score but Andre Russell kept the hopes alive with a fierce power-hitting display.
Russell scored 48 runs in 25 balls, a knock which was laced with 1 four and 6 sixes. However, he couldn’t take the team home as he got off on the second ball of the final over. With that win, Gujarat has once again reached the number one position on the points table with 6 wins in 7 matches.
