Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya may serve as the Men in Blue’s vice-captain for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022. He will also hold the same position for the T20 World Cup competitions.
KL Rahul had recently tested positive for COVID-19. Hence he was forced to miss a five-match T20I series against the West Indies. According to BCCI sources, he could be replaced by Pandya. Rahul was slated to play in that series.
“The management is discussing over one name for vice-captaincy. It could be Hardik Pandya as he gave us good results in the past. He made Gujarat Titans the champions of IPL 2022 under his leadership. He showed great performances in the series against South Africa and England. We want to name an all-rounder for this post and in the current scenario, Hardik deserves this post,” sources informed.
KL Rahul was elected the vice-captain of India in both white-ball formats. This was after star batsman Virat Kohli resigned from the T20I captaincy following the T20 World Cup in November of last year. And was replaced as the ODI squad skipper the following month by Rohit Sharma.
Hardik Pandya has so far had a fantastic 2022. Fans have witnessed this all-arounder become the leader. He captained Gujarat Titans to victory in their inaugural Indian Premier League campaign.
He took the lead for GT with 487 runs scored in 15 games at an average of 44.27 and four half-centuries. In addition, Pandya claimed eight wickets.
The Indian team that travelled to Ireland to play two T20Is was subsequently given his name as captain. That series was won 2-0 by India.
Pandya made an impression with his performances on the England tour. In the white-ball portion of the tour, he was incredibly skilled with both the bat and the ball. His four innings of work resulted in 163 runs scored at an average of 40.75. Pandya scored two outstanding half-centuries, the finest of which was 71. With the best bowling stats of 4/24, he also got 11 wickets for India.
This year’s highly anticipated Asia Cup cricket event will begin on August 27.
