Hardik Pandya has had a mediocre bowling performance in IPL 2022 despite his batting prowess. In 11 games, the Gujarat Titans captain has bowled only 19.3 overs and taken only four wickets. In only four games, he has met his four-over quota.
He has, however, been impressive with the bat. He has 344 runs with an average of 38.22 in 11 games, including three half-centuries. Also there has been talks of his captaincy and some veterans have praised the all rounder’s leadership skills. The points table shows the same.
The selectors are pleased with his comeback to form, despite his mediocre bowling efforts. The only thing that concerns them is his physical condition. Hardik Pandya has taken several mid-game pauses, handing over the captaincy to Rashid Khan. Hardik has also been out with a niggle and has appeared tired at times.
“Hardik is OK. In the IPL, the team decides how frequently he bowls. He appears to be in excellent health. We’re keeping an eye on his IPL performances, and he’s been impressive so far,” a member of the selection committee said.
Selection committee meeting in Mumbai on May 23.The India squad likely to be announced by May 25.The Chetan Sharma-led selection committee will meet in Mumbai. The management can give rest to senior players and try young talent. The players work load also needs to be managed as there are important future assignments.
Also there would be talks of return of Hardik Pandya and his fitness. There could be some new and young faces too, if management decides to give rest the veterans. The players would not want to miss the opportunity as there is World Cup which will be held in Australia later this year.
