Melbourne Stars pacer Haris Rauf will miss the Melbourne Derby clash against Renegades after being selected in the Pakistan Test squad for the first time.

Stars will be without pace sensation Rauf as he will return home. After Friday’s success against Strikers, Stars have climbed to the fourth spot on the table with two indispensable games against their local rivals to come in their next two trips.

On Friday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a 20-member squad, including nine uncapped players, for the two-match Test series against South Africa, which commences on January 26.

The nine maiden call-ups for the Pakistan squad includes openers Abdullah Shafique and Imran Butt, middle-order batsmen Kamran Ghulam, Salman Ali Agha and Saud Shakeel, spinners Nauman Ali and Sajid Khan, and fast bowlers Haris Rauf and Tabish Khan. The players have been selected owing to their performances in the first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2020-21 season.

Hasan Ali has made his comeback in the squad after delivering swashbuckling performances in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. Playing for Central Punjab, the pace bowler scalped 43 wickets in nine matches, while also registering a spectacular 863 runs cumulatively. The incredibly successful season won him Player of the Tournament title.

Along with Ali, left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz, who took 22 wickets and scored 744 runs in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, is also returning in the Test squad. His selection marks his return to Test after over four years. He last played a Test game against in 2016 against West Indies in Sharjah.

Pakistan 20-player squad: Babar Azam (captain), Mohammad Rizwan (vice-captain), Abid Ali, Abdullah Shafique, Imran Butt, Azhar Ali, Fawad Alam, Kamran Ghulam, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Nawaz, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Nauman Ali, Sajid Khan, Yasir Shah, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Tabish Khan.
