Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday announced South Africa’s squad for the forthcoming T20I series against Pakistan. The T20I series is slated to be played between February 11-14 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Most of the South African players including skipper Quinton de Kock, pace trio Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, and Lungi Ngidi set to return home after the conclusion of the Test series.
The board has named batsman Henrich Klaasen as the skipper for the T20I series in the absence of de Kock. Klaasen has only played 13 matches in the shortest format for South Africa and aggregated 271 runs so far.
CSA has also named uncapped seamer Okuhle Cele, wicketkeeper Ryan Rickleton and batsman Jacques Snyman in the squad, who have been called in as replacements.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has compelled sporting bodies to find innovative ways of ensuring tours and sporting events take place as planned or with as little disruption to revised plans as possible,” CSA director of cricket Graeme Smith said on Tuesday.
“We are not exempt from that, and have had to do a bit of outside-of-the-box thinking to ensure that we are fully prepared for a home test tour against Australia while having an exciting T20 series to complete in Pakistan.” he further stated.
