ICC Cricket Rankings: Following their excellent stints in the recently ended India-Sri Lanka Test series, Jasprit Bumrah and Dimuth Karunaratne have made huge advances in the latest ICC Test Rankings. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has dropped from fifth to ninth place among batsmen.
Jasprit Bumrah vaulted six positions to fourth in the ICC Test Rankings for bowlers after taking eight wickets, including his maiden Test five-for at home in the second India v Sri Lanka Test in Bangalore. In the leaderboard, the Indian speedster surpassed Shaheen Afridi, Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee, James Anderson, Neil Wagner, and Josh Hazlewood.
Mohammed Shami advanced one rank to replace fellow countryman Ravindra Jadeja in 17th place, while Lasith Embuldeniya and Praveen Jayawickrama advanced five spots apiece to 32nd and 45th place. The top three are still Pat Cummins, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Kagiso Rabada.
After his battling 107 in the second innings in Bangalore, Sri Lanka Test skipper Dimuth Karunaratne soared to a career-high No. 5 in the batting statistics. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, fell to ninth place, with Pakistan captain Babar Azam moving up to eighth place on the rankings, which is topped by Marnus Labuschagne, Joe Root, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson, in that order.
Nkrumah Bonner and Shreyas Iyer advanced by a whopping 22 and 40 spaces, respectively, to 22nd and 37th place. While Bonner earned his position courtesy of his 123-run knock and an unbeaten 38 in the first drawn Test against England last week in Antigua, Iyer was recognised for his match-winning 92 and 67 against Sri Lanka. Furthermore, Zak Crawley’s 121 against the West Indies in the second innings propelled him to 49th place.
Jason Holder has recovered the top place in the all-rounders standings, displacing Ravindra Jadeja, who had moved to No. 1 following his 175* and nine wickets in the Mohali Test earlier this month. The top five are completed by Ravichandran Ashwin, Shakib Al Hasan, and Ben Stokes.
