After a terrific show of bowling in the first two matches of the ongoing ODI series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, Bangladesh off-spinner Mehidy Hasan has achieved his career-best second ranking in the ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings.
With this huge leap in the rankings, Mehidy has also become the third Bangladeshi bowler to enter the top two rankings of the ICC Men ODI Player Rankings. He moved up three places to take the spot. The first Bangladeshi player to top the rankings is all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who did so back in 2009. Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak was the second to enter the top two ranks, occupying the second spot in 2010.
In the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League series against Sri Lanka, Mehidy returned figures of four for 30 and three for 28 bowling in the first and the second matches, respectively. The hosts had a massive victory in both the games, winning the first match by 33 runs, and the second by 103 runs.
Among other advancements made by Bangladeshi players in the ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings, left-arm fast bowler Mustafizur Rehman has rose up eight places to take up the ninth position. He picked up three for 34 and three for 16 in the two matches of the series.
Player of the match of both the games, Mushfiqur Rahim has attained his career-best rank of the 14th position. He advanced up four places owing to his 84 and 125-run knocks in the two ODIs. Mahmudullah rose up the ranks as well, to take up the 38th position following his knock of 54 runs and 41 runs.
In the Sri Lankan side, fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera has moved up 11 places owing to his three for 44 in the second match. Along with him, PWH de Siva also moved up eight positions.
