Joe Root displayed exceptional performance in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, leading England to an unassailable victory. He scored 228 runs and 186 runs in both the matches.
Ireland player Paul Stirling received the recognition owing to three tons that he smashed in the matches against UAE and Afghanistan.
Diana Baig made heads turn by her spectacular in three ODIs against South Africa. She was involved in nine dismissals during the series. Momentum Proteas player Shabnim Ismail, who played three ODIs and two T20Is against Pakistan, clinched seven wickets and five wickets in both the series respectively. She also entered into the list of the top four players to take 100 wickets in Women T20I.
Proteas all-rounder Marizzane Kapp performed well with both the bat and the ball. She played two ODIs and two T20Is against Pakistan, scoring 115 runs and clinching three wickets.
The results of the winners of the award in both the categories will be announced on February 7.
The ICC announced the launch of the ICC Player of the Month Awards in the last week of January to recognise the standout performances of players in both men and women cricket.
ICC will decide the title-winning player based on the number of votes received by them cast by their fans. Fans will get to vote online for their favourite players every month through ICC’s website. ICC Voting Academy members will also participate in the voting along with the fans. The ICC Voting Academy will retain 90% share of votes, while the share of the votes of fans will be 10%.
