The International Cricket Council (ICC) Thursday announced the nominations for the ICC Player of the Month for March for both Men and Women categories.
ICC Women’s Player of the Month Nominees for March includes two Indian players, namely, bowler Rajeshwari Gayakwad and opening batter Punam Raut, and South African player Lizelle Lee. All the three players featured in the India versus South Africa limited overs series.
Punam Raut played five ODIs against South Africa and ended the series as the leading run-scorer of her side. She scored a total of 263 runs at 87.66 with a strike rate of 71.66, including a century and two half-centuries in the ODI series. Her teammate and nominee Rajeshwari Gayakwad also played five ODIs and three T20Is against SA. She clinched 8 wickets with an economy rate of 3.56 in the ODIs and emerged as the leading wicket-taker of the series, while pickuing up 4 wickets in the T20Is.
Lizelle Lee played four ODIs during which she smashed a ton and two 50s. Her topliner performance helped her make notable games in the ICC Women’s ODI Batting Rankings.
The nominees of the ICC Men’s Player of the Month category include Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Afghanistan bowler Rashid Khan, and Sean Williams of Zimbabwe. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar starred in three ODI matches and five T20Is last month, in the series against England. He clinched 6 wickets in the ODI series with an economy rate of 4.65, and 4 wickets in the T20Is.
Rashid Khan and Sean Williams earned their place in the nominations owing to their power-packed performance in the Afghanistan vs Zimbabwe Test and T20I series. Rashid played an instrumental role in his team’s victory in the second Test by scalping 11 wickets in the match. He also made notable contribution in the T20I series in which Afghanistan white-washed Zimbabwe to claim the series victory by clinching 6 wickets in three games.
Sean Williams of Zimbabwe played both the matches of the Test series as well as all the games of the T20I series. He scored an impressive 264 runs and took 2 wickets in the Tests while adding 45 runs in the T20Is.
