Australian cricketer Steve Smith has taken over Kane Williamson to take the number one spot in the ICC Test rankings for batsmen.
The New Zealand skipper didn’t feature in the recently concluded second Test between New Zealand and England. Besides, he made 13 runs in the first Test of the series, which saw him slip five points behind Smith’s 891 rating points. Steve Smith, who was earlier second on the list has now moved to the top position.
Kane Williamson is all set to lead New Zealand in the World Test Championship final against India, starting 18th June 2021. It will be an opportunity for him to regain the number one spot.
Furthermore, the ICC Test rankings also saw Virat Kohli jump to the number four spot, while Marnus Labuschagne and Joe Root takes the third and fifth position respectively. After the conclusion of the first Test between South Africa and West Indies, Quinton de Kock gained 11 positions to take the joint-12th position along with Cheteshawar Pujara. South African opener Adrian Markram advances two slots to take 14th position.
Rishabh Pant is currently sitting at sixth position with 747 rating points. He is followed by Rohit Sharma, Henry Nicholls and David Warner at sixth, seventh and eighth position respectively.
Speaking of the bowlers, Kagiso Rabada has gained two spots to climb up the seventh position, while Anrich Nortje has reached the top 30 for the first time in his Test career. Lungi Ngidi has jumped 14 placed to reach the 44th position after taking his first five-wicket in the Test.
Australian paceman Pat Cummins and Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin continue to reign in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions with 908 and 850 points, respectively.
