IND v ENG Test: In his recent column for Times of India, VVS Laxman heaped praise on Rohit Sharma for his excellent performances in the Test series against England. Among many others, Laxman too was mighty impressed with the way Rohit Sharma played in England. The Indian opener finished the series as India’s highest run-getter with 368 runs in 4 matches at an average of 52.57. Laxman further stated that all the aspiring openers should take a cue from India’s Hitman on how to be a successful Test Cricket opener.
“His evolution as a Test opener is a terrific lesson for those aspiring for a successful career in any chosen field. One of the all-time greats in white-ball formats, Rohit has committed to establishing himself as a Test batsman. He has been fantastic this year, and the second innings hundred, his first away from home, will remain his most cherished,” said VVS Laxman.
Rohit Sharma scored a match-winning century against England in Oval, which was also his first overseas ton. VVS Laxman was impressed with the way Rohit curbed his counter-attacking approach in overseas conditions.
“Since embracing the opening role two years back, Rohit has put his attacking instincts on the backburner overseas, batting out of character without looking out of sync,” Laxman added.
The fifth and final Test, which was scheduled to start today, has now been cancelled. The development has come after several Indian players wrote to BCCI for expressing apprehension over playing the Test at Old Trafford. Earlier, India’s second physio Yogesh Parmar was tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday. Following this development, all the Indian players underwent Covid-19 Tests and were told to isolate themselves in their respective hotel rooms.
