IND v SA, Boxing Day Test: Day 2 of the first Test between India and South Africa has been washed out due to rain. Incessant rain throughout the day meant not a single over was bowled on Day 2. Given the weather forecast wasn’t too good ahead of the start of the first Test, persistent rains on Day 2 was pretty much on the expected lines.
Much to the delight of the fans, the weather forecast for the next two days is promising. One can expect rain not to interrupt on Day 3 and Day 4 of the Test match. Things, however, could be gloomy on Day with heavy rains expected. India needs to score runs at a brisk pace and bundle out South Africa very quickly if they fancy a win here.
It will be interesting to see how India plan the Test from here. Day 1 of the first Test belonged to India. At the end of the first day’s play, India had lost only three wickets for 272 runs. KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal gave the team a sensational start. The duo added 117 runs for the opening wicket. The latter got out in the 41st over after scoring 60 off 123 balls. South Africa looked to come back into the game as Lungi Ngidi sent Cheteshwar Pujara back to the hut on the very next deliveries to suddenly leave India to 117 for 2.
Virat Kohli played well for his 35 off 94 but once again failed to convert the start into a big score. India lost three wickets for 199 runs. Ajinkya Rahane, who was given one more opportunity, stepped up and played a confident 40-run unbeaten knock. He stitched an unbeaten 73-run partnership with KL Rahul before the end of the day’s play.
KL Rahul, on the other hand, stayed unbeaten on 122 off 248 balls. He notched up his maiden century in South Africa in Test Cricket and put India in a commanding position on Day 1 of the first IND vs SA Test.
