IND v WI: After being ruled out of the South Africa series, India’s white-ball captain, Rohit Sharma is all set to make his international comeback in the upcoming white-ball series against West Indies at home.
India dearly missed his services in the recently concluded South Africa tour. After losing the Test series 2-1, they also suffered defeat in all three ODIs, which followed thereafter.
Nevertheless, the focus will now be on the upcoming series against West Indies, and Rohit Sharma’s comeback is a big positive. It has been understood that the selection meeting for the series is slated to be held this week.
After enduring poor outings in South Africa, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravichandran Ashwin are likely to be under the scanner. They might not be selected for the upcoming series.
India and West Indies are slated to play three ODIs, starting from 6th February. The two countries will then play three T20 internationals, which will be played between 16th and 20th February 2022.
“Rohit is fit and available for the series against the West Indies,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
“By the time, the West Indies series starts, it will be more than seven and half weeks of rehabilitation and recuperation for Rohit.
“He is already training in Mumbai and is expected to be in Bangalore for the fitness test and get a formal okay from the National Cricket Academy,” the source informed.
Hardik Pandya was dropped after his dismal performances in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. However, he is also likely to be back in the team ahead of the series against West Indies. The Indian all-rounder has been bowling in the nets but it is unclear when he will be fully fit before the start of the series or not.
