IND vs ENG Fourth Test Match Preview: England has levelled the five-match Test series 1-1 after beating India in the third Test by an innings and 76 runs. The first match resulted in a draw, while India won the second Test by 151 runs.
The fourth Test will be played at Kennington Oval in London, starting from 2nd September 2021. England would be brimming with confidence after showing a sensational performance in the last Test. Virat Kohli surprisingly won the toss and decided to bat first. The decision proved to be a nightmare as England bundled India out for just 78 runs. James Anderson and Craig Overton picked three wickets each, while Robinson and Curran picked 2 apiece.
In reply, England made a solid start with Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed adding 135 runs for the opening wicket. Rory Burns made 61 runs off 153 balls, while Haseeb Hameed amassed 68 runs off 195 deliveries. England kept on dominating the game even after the dismissals of both the openers. Joe Root continued his fine form with the bat as he notched his third century of the series. He went onto score 121 runs off 165 balls as England scored 432 runs in their first innings, giving India a 354-run lead.
Contrary to their first innings, India batted well in their second innings. Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara gave a steady start and by the end of day 3, India had only lost two wickets for just 215 runs. England, once again, came roaring back on the fourth day and bundled India out inside two sessions for 278. Ollie Robinson was the pick of the bowlers for England. He picked a five-for in the second innings before picking two wickets in the first innings.
Ahead of the fourth Test, Chris Woakes has recovered from his injury and is likely to play the fourth Test. Besides, Mark Wood has also recovered from his shoulder injury and Sam Billings has been added as cover. Jos Buttler will miss the fourth Test, citing personal reasons.
India, on the other hand, is also expected to make a few changes in the squad. Surprisingly, they have added Prasidh Krishna for the fourth Test. It raised quite a few eyebrows as India already have Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur in the squad. Nevertheless, with the series levelled at 1-1, one could expect a cracker of a contest at The Oval Cricket Ground.
