England stumbled onto their second consecutive loss after failing to stand firm against the Indian spin web in Ahmedabad. They lost the third Test match at the Narendra Modi Stadium, within a span of just two days, also marking their most humiliating loss against India.
While the Indian team celebrated its victory beaming with joy, some former players and fans criticized the making of the Ahmedabad for the match ended within two days.
Michael Vaughan and Monty Panesar were among the initial critics of the pitch as they slammed the pitch curators for preparing such kind of track. However, the left-arm spinner Jack Leach who has so far been the most successful bowlers among the visitors rubbished all the criticism revolving around the Ahmedabad pitch.
“I don’t really have too much to say about the pitch, I think we got outplayed in those conditions and for me I am always looking to learn and get better and see every challenge as a way of improving,” Leach told reporters.
“I think their spinners bowled really, really well and I don’t think we should take anything away from them by saying bad things about the wicket.” he added.
Axar Patel made his Test debut for India in the second Test and left a lasting impression by taking a fifer. He followed his golden run by taking 11 wickets in the third Test and stands as the highest-wicket taker with 18 scalps so far.
England failed to withstand the duo of Ashwin and Axar as they got all-out on 112 and 81 in first and second innings respectively.
After the win, Indian skipper Virat Kohli along with Ravichandran Ashwin and Rohit Sharma defended Ahmedabad’s unplayable spinning track.
“Ashwin world-class bowler. Axar Patel was very accurate. I want to say that they bowled very well and that’s what I am looking at them and seeing how can I get better and that’s all my focus is on,” Leach said.
“In the dressing we are just trying to get better and be prepared for this next match.” he added.
India is currently leading the five-match Test series by 2-1, with the fourth and the last Test match due to be played at Ahmedabad from March 4-8.
