The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Thursday that bowling all-rounder Sam Curran would not feature in the final Test of the four-match Test series between India and England at the Motera Stadium in Gujarat.
The board informed that Curran would be joining the squad on February 26 to prepare for the limited-overs series against the hosts. The board informed that the 22-year old would be available for the five-match T20I series between the two teams.
“Sam Curran will rejoin the England squad via the charter flight carrying other members of the limited-overs squad to India on 26 February. Originally it was planned the Surrey all-rounder would fly to Ahmedabad in time to be available for the fourth Test in the city, starting on 4 March,” ECB confirmed in their official statement.
Stating the reason for the unavailability of Curran in the squad for the fourth Test, ECB stated that there are issues regarding the arrangement of security given the COVID-19 pandemic.
“However, in the midst of the ongoing pandemic, making secure arrangements for such a journey proved too great a logistical challenge,” ECB informed.
The England team suffered a thrashing defeat in the second Test of the series at the hands of the Indian team, losing the match by a wide margin of 317 runs. With India’s victory at the MA Chidambaram stadium, the series is now levelled at 1-1.
