Tamil Nadu’s spin sensation Varun Chakravarthy is doubtful to play in the T20I series against England, the sources confirmed the news on Sunday.
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner may miss his second chances to play for the Indian team after failing to comply with the standard yo-yo test by the BCCI. He had already missed his national debut once before due to the serious shoulder injury he’d sustained during the 13th edition of IPL.
Cricbuzz reported that Chakravarthy was recalled in the Indian team for the T20I series against England owing to his superb performance for Kolkata Knight Riders in the UAE.
However, this time he failed to clear the fitness test i.e., finishing two-kilometers within eight and a half minutes or scoring 17.1 in the Yo-Yo test.
“I have not been informed of anything as yet,” Varun told Cricbuzz on the reports of his tentativeness for the T20I series.
Varun was one of the emerging players and also the most successful spinner of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League in the UAE.
The 29-year-old is currently with the Kolkata Knight Riders team in Mumbai and also spent over three months at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore.
The BCCI is yet to confirm the news of his availability for the T20I series against England that is slated to begin from March 12 in Lucknow.
