IND vs ENG: Indian spinner Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the upcoming five-match Test series against England starting next month. Reportedly, he has sustained a finger injury, however, the details of the same hasn’t been revealed. With that, India has now three players who have been ruled out of the tour, namely Washington Sundar, Avesh Khan and Shubman Gill.
Avesh Khan and Washington Sudar both played for County XI in the recently concluded three-day practice match between India and County-XI. While Avesh fractured his finger on Day 1 of the game, Washington Sundar took the field on both completed days so far and no on-field injury was reported.
With three players getting ruled out, the 24-member squad has now been trimmed to a 21-member unit. It has come as a big blow for India. The Men in Blue though have three spinners at their disposal with the likes of Ravi Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. It remains to be seen if India calls for a replacement for Sundar to add another spinner into the squad.
As far as Sundar’s replacements are concerned, Kuldeep Yadav could fly down to England, given his experience in Test cricket. Experienced campaigner, Shahbaz Nadeem could also replace Sundar in the squad.
IND vs ENG: Rishabh Pant joins the squad in Durham
After completing his quarantine period, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has joined the Indian team in Durham ahead of the Test series. He had tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month during team India’s break period after the ICC World Test Championship Final. He tested negative for the virus on Monday.
The first of the five-match Test series between India and England will be played from 4th to 8th August 2021. The last Test will be played from 10th to 14th September 2021.
