IND vs IRE: A second-string India team will visit Ireland to play a two-match T20I series set to take place in June. Cricket Ireland recently confirmed that India will be playing two T20 internationals against Ireland on June 26 and June 28. Unfortunately, the top Indian stars such as Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant among others won’t be part of the squad.
India is due to play one remaining Test from the last year’s tour of England between 1st and 5th July 2022. Thus, they won’t be going to Ireland for the T20 series.
“This summer will be a ‘Season of Stars’ as India, New Zealand and Afghanistan tour Ireland, while we will play South Africa in Bristol. We’re set for the biggest home international season in Ireland ever!” Cricket Ireland tweeted.
Cricket Ireland on Tuesday, March 1, announced their upcoming home season of cricket action. Ireland will be kicking off their home summer with a T20 series against Ireland, following which they will play against the likes of New Zealand, Afghanistan, and South Africa. After playing against Ireland, India will be playing three ODIs and as many T20 internationals against England, starting 7th July 2022.
“We are delighted to welcome back India Men’s team for the first time since 2018, as well as the number one-ranked ODI side, the Black Caps, who were last here in 2017,” Warren Deutrom, Chief Executive of Cricket Ireland, said.
India last played a T20I series against Ireland in 2018. The Men in Blue won the series by a margin of 2-0. Reports suggest that that revenue earned from the T20 internationals against India will be more than all the matches against other nations played during the rest of the season.
