IND vs SA: The Indian Cricket Team led by Virat Kohli has written their name in the history books after registering India’s first-ever win against South Africa at SuperSport Park in Centurion. They also become the first Asian country to conquer the fortress of the Proteas. Ahead of the fifth day of the Test, South Africa had 6 wickets in hand, having lost four wickets for just 94 runs.
Dean Elgar and Temba Bavuma showed some resistance and looked good in the first session of the day. Jasprit Bumrah eventually got Elgar leg-before on 130 to get the first breakthrough of the day. Mohammed Siraj then removed Quinton de Kock eight overs later to reduce South Africa to 161 for 6 in 60 overs.
Mohammad Shami accounted for the wickets for Wiaan Mulder and Marco Jensen to take India to the brink of a win. Ravichandran Ashwin took the last two wickets of Rabada and Lungi in the 68th over to help India win the first Test by 113 runs and thereby take a 1-0 lead in the series. Keeping in mind the seaming conditions here, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal played the most important knocks in the tournament.
The 117-run partnership between the two set the tone for the win. KL Rahul scored a sensational 123-run knock off 260 balls, while Mayank Agarwal amassed 60 off 123 balls. India, as a result of those contributions, scored a mammoth 327-run total in the first innings. South Africa, in reply, were bundled out for just 197 runs, thanks to a five-wicket haul from Mohammed Shami.
India batted again and scored 174 runs in the second innings. South Africa bowled well and bowled out India for a low total. However, despite that, Virat Kohli still managed to compile a big enough target for South Africa to chase. The proteas, eventually, fell 113 runs short of the target.
The second Test of the IND vs SA series is scheduled to be played from 3rd January to 7th January at The Wanderers Stadium.
