IND vs SA: South Africa has denied India of making a world record as they didn’t let them win the 13th consecutive T20 international. India played under the leadership of a new skipper in Rishabh Pant. India was asked to bat first and they notched a mammoth score of 211 runs in the first innings.
Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad put on a quick-fire 57-run standing for the opening wicket. Gaikwad got out just after the power play after scoring 23 runs in 15 balls. However, Ishan Kishan went on to play a sensational knock of 76 runs in 48 deliveries, including 11 fours and 3 sixes.
Shreyas Iyer also played a valuable knock of 36 runs in 27 balls in the middle overs, while valuable knocks from Rishabh Pant (29 off 16) and Hardik Pandya (31 off 12) meant India reached a mammoth score on the board. For South Africa, Parnell was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with bowling figures of 1 for 32 in 4 overs.
In reply, South Africa chased down a 212-run total in just 19.1 overs. India had the upper hand till the first half of the second innings. The likes of Quinton de Kock (22 off 18), Temba Bavuma (10 off 8) and Dwaine Pretorius (29 off 13) all failed to convert the start into big scores. After nine overs, South Africa had lost 3 wickets for 81 runs.
Rassie van der Dussen then joined hands with David Miller and the duo carried the team home comfortably. Rassie van der Dussen was struggling to get his timing right initially. However, David Miller was going all guns blazing at the other hand. Later, Rassie van der Dussen got into the act and Miller took the backseat. Miller played an unbeaten knock of 64 runs in 31 balls, while Rassie van der Dussen also remained unbeaten on 75 off 46 balls.
The second T20 international is slated to be played on Sunday at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
