IND vs SL 1st Test Live score: Virat Kohli reached a historic landmark on Friday as he completed 100 matches in Test Cricket. The 33-year old achieved the milestone during the first Test of the two-match series against Sri Lanka at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The former Indian captain, however, couldn’t end his century drought as he got out on after scoring 45 off 76 balls. His knock was studded with five boundaries.
During his knock, he made another milestone as Virat Kohli became only the sixth Indian cricketer to reach the 8000-run mark in the longest format of the game. He reached the landmark on the second delivery of the 39th over of the innings when he steered Vishwa Fernando for a single past point.
For those of you who don’t know, Virat Kohli is now the fifth-fastest among Indians to reach 8000 runs in Test Cricket. Interestingly, Ricky Ponting also reached the 8000-run mark in only his 100th Test.
Ahead of the start of the Test match, Virat Kohli urged the younger generation to take inspiration from the fact that he managed to play 100 Tests despite representing the nation in all three facets of the game.
“It is a special moment for me. My wife is here and so is my brother. Everyone is very proud. It is indeed a team game and it couldn’t have been possible without you. With the amount we play with three formats and an IPL, the one takeaway the next generation can take from me is that I played 100 games in the purest format,” said an emotional Kohli.
