IND vs SL 2021: The controversial Sri Lankan player-manager once again has grabbed headlines due to wrong reasons. As per the recent reports, the player-manager has been alleged to force a change in the playing XI ahead of the second T20 international against India on Thursday. One of the leading such player-managers was also involved in taking 10 per cent commission from the first edition of the Lanka Premier League from many of his clients for forcing his players to play in the team.
The player-manager is reported in touch with the senior members of the Sri Lankan Cricket Team management. He has been accused of forcing one of the two changes made in the second T20I.
In the second T20 international, two changes were made in the playing XI. Debutant Ramesh Mendis replaced Ashen Bandara, while Sadeera Samarawickrama came in place of the in-form Charith Asalanka.
“This has become an utter nuisance. We were compelled to leave out a promising all-rounder from the second T20I against India solely due to such influence coming from his manager. We actually wanted to play him but we decided against it for his manager’s influence,” sources told Morning Sports.
Sri Lanka made a couple of changes to the team before their match-winning night. Debutant Ramesh Mendis came in place of Ashen Bandara, while Sadeera Samarawickrama replaced in-form Charith Asalanka.
