IND vs SL, 2nd Test: In less than three days, India managed to wrap up the second Test against Sri Lanka on Monday. Chasing a mammoth score of 447 runs, Sri Lanka ended Day 2 of 28 for 1. They had very little hope to win the Test. Skipper, Dimuth Karunaratne, however, wasn’t willing to give up too easily. He brought up another outstanding ton on a difficult track to bat on.
The southpaw managed to score 107 runs in 174 balls, a knock which was studded with 15 fours. Kuranaratne, however, lacked support from the other end as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Sri Lanka, though, started the day positively. Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis stitched a 97-run partnership for the second wicket and gave Sri Lanka little hope.
The duo played some heart-warming shots and coped with the difficult period admirably. Mendis went on to score a half-century, however, couldn’t convert it into a big one. Ravichandran Ashwin, finally, got ended the partnership as he sent Mendis (54 off 60) back to the hut in the 20th overs.
Wickets fell in a cluster after that. The likes of Angelo Mathews (1), Dhananaya de Silva (4), Dickwella (12) and Asalanka (5) all got out without making a substantial contribution. Karunaratne, however, kept scoring runs at the other end and went on to reach his century. He eventually got out off Bumrah in the 58th over and it was a matter of time after that. Sri Lanka, eventually, were folded for 208 runs, thereby losing the game by 238 runs.
Ravichandran Ashwin returned with figures of 4 for 55, while Bumrah claimed 3 for 23 in 9 overs. Axar Patel and Jadeja picked 2 and 1 wickets each. With that, India has registered another clean sweep under Rohit Sharma.
