IND vs SL Test: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced an 18 member squad for their upcoming Test series against India. The two teams are set to engage in a two-match Test series starting March 4 in Mohali, while the second Test is scheduled for March 12 in Bengaluru.
Selectors have included key names, Lahiru Thirimanne, Niroshan Dickwella, and Kusal Mendis (subject to fitness) in Sri Lanka’s Test squad, which also features uncapped legspinner Jeffrey Vandersay. Thirimanne would be making his comeback after he missed the home series against West Indis.
Both Mendis and Dickwella were suspended for a bio-bubble violation in England around the time of Sri Lanka’s previous series against the West Indies at home. Mendis, on the other hand, will have to demonstrate his fitness after suffering a hamstring injury in the fifth T20I against Australia.
Three players had picked up injuries during Sri Lanka’s 1-4 T20I series defeat against Australia, resultantly they would be out of action. Avishka Fernando might be absent from the field for several months after suffering a knee injury that will almost certainly necessitate surgery; allrounder Ramesh Mendis, although named in the Test squad, won’t be participating after he fractured his thumb while batting in the nets, and seamer Nuwan Thushara suffered a side strain during a stint.
Another setback for the team would be the absence of bowler Wanindu Hasaranga, who is under isolation after testing positive for Covid-19 for the second time during the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on the player on Tuesday (22nd February). His PCR test also confirmed the result.
