IND vs SL: Star Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga will not play in the forthcoming T20I series between India and Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed on Tuesday. The all-rounder is currently recovering from COVID-19 after he tested positive for covid last week. Moreover, he has tested positive for the virus in his latest test after returning from the Australia tour too.
Hasaranga, 24, was one of the three Sri Lankan players to have tested positive for covid in Australia alongside Kusal Mendis and Binura Fernando. All three players were left out of the last three matches of the five-match T20I series, which Sri Lanka ended up losing 1-4. Sri Lanka escaped a narrow white-wash with a victory by five wickets in the final match.
Hasaranga had taken five wickets in the two matches he played in the T20I series after finishing with 3/38 and 2/33 in the starting two games.
“Wanindu Hasaranga, who was in isolation after contracting COVID-19, has once again, returned a positive result when a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) was conducted on the player yesterday (February 22). A PCR test too confirmed the result,” SLC said in an official statement.
“He was first found to be positive during a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on February 15, 2022. The player was transferred to Melbourne from Canberra and will remain in isolation until he returns a negative PCR Test Report,” it added.
