IND W vs NZ W: New Zealand’s batter Brooke Halliday has been ruled out of the final two ODIs against India Women after being deemed as close contact of a COVID-19 case. Halliday has featured in the one-off T20I as well as the first two ODIs in the ongoing series between India Women & New Zealand Women.
Halliday dined in a restaurant with her partner who had later tested positive for COVID-19. So as per the protocols, Halliday will now be required to isolate in her hotel room for the next seven days. She returned with a negative COVID-19 test on Monday & will now be tested again on the fifth day of her isolation period. If she returns a second negative test, she can finish her isolation period and re-join the team on Friday as they prepare for next month’s home World Cup.
“This is obviously a frustrating time for Brooke,” said head coach Bob Carter. “But she’s remaining upbeat, and as a team, we’re supporting her and checking in on her by phone, etc. Of course, we’re looking forward to her re-joining the team once she’s met the appropriate protocols.”
New Zealand will march into the 4th T20I without the trio of Lea Tahuhu, Maddy Green, and Fran Jonas. Maddy Green & Fran Jonas has been rested from the fourth ODI due to lacerations on their hands while Tahuhu is rested to avoid the risk of injury. Tahuhu was forced off the field with a minor injury in the third ODI but returned to bat in New Zealand’s chase. She’ll be available as a substitute fielder if necessary in the fourth ODI.
“Maddy and Fran both injured their hands while practicing. We are monitoring their individual situations and are hopeful of a quick recovery for both. We didn’t want to risk Lea bowling in ODI 4, especially with a World Cup just around the corner,” Carter said.
The IND W vs NZ W ODI series is already clinched by New Zealand with a 3-0 score. The fourth ODI will be played today in Queenstown while the final ODI of the series will be played on Thursday. Heading into the fourth ODI, New Zealand Women will aim to extend their lead in the series while India Women would aim to save their pride by registering their first win of the series. Fans can expect nothing less than an enthralling contest today at John Davies Oval.
