Ahead of the third Test between India and England at the newly constructed Motera Stadium, Umesh Yadav marks his return to the squad. He has replaced Shardul Thakur for the final two Tests on Wednesday.
Given the third Test will be played with the pink ball, team India might end their spin-trio ploy by adding a third seamer in the squad. Umesh Yadav, who has recently been added to the squad might get the nod as the third seamer in the squad.
Recent reports have suggested that Umesh Yadav has cleared the mandatory fitness Test and is eligible to participate in the third Test, starting 24th February 2021.
“He has cleared the fitness test as per new guidelines for the Indian players,” said the source. An India player has to clock either 17.1 (previously it was 16.1) in a Yo-Yo test or clear the two km run in eight-minute and 30 seconds to be eligible to play for the country,” a source said.
A lot has been discussed on the Third Test, which will be played with the pink ball. Given that the pink ball assists a lot to the seamers compared to the spin bowlers, both teams are likely to take the field with their best fast bowlers in their squad. India is looking to come out with the three seamers. However, the pink ball alone isn’t the only factor contributing to that.
“We are exploring different scenarios about the Test and the main concern is neither twilight nor the pink ball. It is the dew factor that is a worry and we are thinking about how to handle the situation. There is a lot of dew in the evenings and we want to make sure it does not become a major disadvantage,” the source said, confirming that having an extra pacer in place of an extra spinner is one of the considerations.
The four-match Test series is currently tied at 1-1. Both sides have won a Test with two matches still to play.
