India vs South Africa: India takes on South Africa in the third and final ODI of the three-match series on Sunday at Newlands Ground in Cape Town. South Africa have outplayed India in all departments, winning both the ODIs.
With that, they have sealed the series 2-0 and would look to register a series whitewash. India, on the other hand, looks to salvage some pride.
India suffered a seven-wicket defeat in the second ODI on Friday. KL Rahul won the toss and elected to bat first. The Indians got a decent start as the openers stitched a 63-run partnership for the opening wicket.
Aiden Markram then sent Dhawan back to the hut in the 12th over. Virat Kohli got out on a duck in the very next over to help South Africa get back into the game. However, what followed was a century partnership with KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. Pant played an outstanding 82-run knock in just 71 balls, while KL Rahul looked scratchy for his 55 off 79 balls.
Later, Shardul Thakur (40 off 38) and Ravichandran Ashwin (25 off 24) made valuable contributions to take the team to a 287-run total in the first innings.
South Africa, in pursuit of the total, made a blistering start. Quinton de Kock (78) and Janneman Malan (91) stitched a 132-run partnership for the opening wicket to set the tone for the run-chase.
Shardul Thakur got the first wicket of De Kock in the 22nd over but India didn’t get a wicket in the next 10 overs. Temba Bavuma got out after scoring a valuable knock of 35 runs in 36 balls.
Aiden Markram (37 off 41) and Rassie van der Dussen (37 off 38), however, stayed unbeaten to help the team chase down the target in 48.1 overs.
