The BCCI announced on Wednesday, January 12, that off-spinner Jayant Yadav and pacer Navdeep Saini have been added to the Indian ODI team for the forthcoming India vs South Africa ODI series.
After testing positive for COVID-19 at the camp in Bengaluru, Team India off-spinner Washington Sundar has been pulled out of the next ODI series against South Africa. Sundar was due to fly to Cape Town with the rest of the ODI squad on Wednesday and join the rest of the team for the ODI series, which begins on January 19th.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Jayant Yadav as a replacement for Sundar. The Committee also added fast bowler Navdeep Saini to the ODI squad as a back-up for Mohammed Siraj who is still recovering from his hamstring injury that he sustained in the 2nd Test against South Africa in Johannesburg,” BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said in an official release.
Yadav, who has only played one ODI for India (in 2016), most recently appeared in the second Test against New Zealand in December, when he took four wickets in the second innings.
On the other hand, Saini last played an ODI against Sri Lanka in July 2021, and has lately gained significant experience in South African conditions, taking 11 wickets in first-class matches against South Africa ‘A’.
