India vs Sri Lanka 2022: According to InsideSport, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors have decided to drop the FAB-FOUR of the Indian cricket for the Sri Lanka series. Implying, the likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Ishant Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Wriddhiman Saha are unlikely to get a call-up for the Test series against Sri Lanka.
All the players were contacted and informed individually by the BCCI that they won’t be considered for selection in the Indian Test team for the SL series.
“Selectors want to try some new faces. Yes, they have been informed individually by the selectors themselves. The decision has been taken after consulting with Coach Rahul Dravid and other senior members of team management”, the Top BCCI Official said.
InsideSport further confirmed that Rahane and Pujara might still have the chance to stage a comeback into the Indian team, but only if they perform well in the upcoming Ranji season. While Ishant and Saha will not get a call-up in the Indian team in the future.
Selectors feel Ishant & Saha both have passed their prime. Age is also not on their side. They have been great servants of Indian cricket but now is the time to move on”, the BCCI official further added.
Furthermore, Saha after hearing about the news from the selectors, informed the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), that he won’t be available for the domestic season.
While Ishant’s availability for the domestic season is not confirmed yet, neither the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) confirmed the availability of the lanky pacer.
On the other hand, Cheteshwar Pujara has been named in the Saurashtra squad for the domestic season starting with Ranji Trophy from February 17.
