India vs Sri Lanka: India is set to lock horns with Sri Lanka in the second and the final Test match from 12th March to 16th March 2022 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. In his first match as captain, Rohit Sharma led India to a victory by an innings and 222 runs at Maholi.
Riding on a sensational knock from Ravindra Jadeja, India notched a huge total of 574 runs on the board. Jadeja played a sensational knock of 175 runs in 228 deliveries, while Rishabh Pant looked sublime was for his 96 off 97 balls.
The likes of Hanuma Vihari (58 of 128) and Kohli (45 off 76) also made valuable contributions with the bat.
The spinners then spun a web around Sri Lankan batters in the second innings. Ravindra Jadeja picked a five-wicket haul and, thereby helped India bundle out Sri Lanka for just 174 runs. With Sri Lanka still trailing by a lot of runs, India decided to enforce the follow-on. Jadeja continue his great run as he picked four wickets, while Ashwin picked four as well. Sri Lanka, in their second innings, were folded for 178 runs.
There is no denying the fact that Sri Lanka has a solid batting unit. The likes of Angelo Mathews, Karunaratne, Dhananjaya de Silva all got starts but couldn’t convert those into big scores. The trio needs to come up with significant contributions with the bat if Sri Lanka hopes to end the tour with a win.
Lahiru Kumara has been ruled out for the second Test due to injury and Jayawickrama is likely to replace him. As for India, Axar Patel has been added to the squad and is likely to make it into the playing XI as well. Jayant Yadav might make way for him.
