India vs Sri Lanka: India and Sri Lanka are set to square up against each other in the two-match Test series, starting from 4th March 2022. The first Test match is scheduled to be played from 4th March to 8th March 2022 at IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
India will be playing under a new skipper in Rohit Sharma. Senior players such as Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ishant Sharma, and Wriddhiman Saha have all been dropped from the squad.
This will help players like Shubhman Gill and Hanuma Vihari feature in the playing XI. Ravichandran Ashwin’s presence in the playing XI is subject to fitness, while Ravindra Jadeja will be making his comeback in the Test team. The pitch in Mohali assists spinners more than the pacers and thus, you could see three spinners playing in the first Test.
Kuldeep Yadav and Jayant Yadav both have been included in the squad. In the fast bowling department, India has selected all four mainstays, such as Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, would be looking to showcase a much better performance than the one they showed in the T20s. Dimuth Karunaratne will lead the side, while Dhananjaya de Silva will be his deputy. Both fared pretty well with the bat in the last Test series against West Indies and would be looking to replicate similar performances in India. Besides, Pathum Nissanka too will be a player to watch out for.
Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal, have a wealth of experience in the batting department. Sri Lanka has come up with three potent spinners in Jeffrey Vandersay, Praveen Jayawickrama, Lasith Embuldeniya. Suranga Lakmal will be playing his last international Test series. He will be sharing the fast bowling duties alongside Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara.
