The Indian Premier League (IPL) informed on Friday that about 1097 players registered their names ahead of the IPL 2021 auction scheduled to take place on February 18 in Chennai. The number of players includes 814 Indians and 283 players. The player’s registration window closed on February 4.
Among the players who have signed up for the IPL 2021 are Sreesanth and left-arm pacer Arjun Tendulkar.
The IPL said in its media advisory that if each franchisee were to accommodate at most 25 players in their squad, 61 players would get a chance to be picked up by the franchises, which includes up to 22 overseas players.
“This will be a relatively smaller auction, where the franchises will be hoping to fix the loose ends and act accordingly. A lot of planning needs to be done on how to approach the auction in terms of strategies,” a franchise official was quoted as saying.
Over 139 players were retained in the mini-auction of IPL 2021 and 57 players were released. Prominent players like Harbhajan Singh, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell are among the players who were released by their respective teams.
