As confirmed by a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 auction is likely to be held on February 18, the venue for which haven’t been decided yet.
“The auction will be held on February 18. The venue is yet to be decided,” the BCCI official told PTI.
Talks on whether to host the cash-rich tournament in India this year is possible or not, is also being discussed. BCCI is also taking into account the possibility of hosting the league outside the country depending on the situations.
Although the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had reiterated that they are inclined to organize the event in India itself and are doing as much as they can to make that happen.
Last year, the coronavirus pandemic had raised a huge question mark over hosting of the tournament. The league finally had to be moved to UAE to get it rolling during September-November.
The BCCI had provided January 20 as the deadline to all the eight franchises for submitting the names of their retained and released players. The trading window for the players is now open till February 4 before the IPL 2021 auction takes place.
Most of the franchises have retained their core team consisting of around 17-18 players. The franchises have released a total of 57 players ahead of the auction.
