The second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 is all set to start in September. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to officially release a schedule of the second leg of the tournament with the UAE set to host the remaining 31 games of the tournament.
The BCCI had earlier informed the franchises that they will give a final word on the availability of overseas players and announce the dates of the tournament by July 15. Although that didn’t happen. However, while waiting for BCCI’s formal announcement, some franchises have unveiled their plans for the remainder of the tournament.
The top three teams in the IPL points table want to move early and have informed the BCCI that they are planning to reach UAE as early as August 15. As per reports, Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals have said that they intend to reach Dubai by August 20 and start their camp. They have shelved their plans to hold the camp in India in view of the pandemic and the monsoon situation in the country.
“We want to be there by August 15, latest by 20th and we have informed the BCCI that we want to be there by then. We are hoping to get the required permissions, without which the logistical plans will be difficult to execute”CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan
A Delhi Capitals official has also informed BCCI that they also intend to reach Dubai around the same time. Reportedly, Royal Challengers Banglore also have similar plans for their camp.
According to the points table before the first phase of IPL 2021 was suspended in May when there was an increase in COVID-19 positive cases within the teams Delhi Capitals top the table. With 12 points (8 games), Delhi is on top, followed by CSK and RCB with 10 points each from seven games.
The BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly is currently in Dubai along with the other BCCI officials, where they are likely to open a temporary office to oversee the proceedings of IPL 2021 phase 2.
