Indian spin specialist Ravichandran Ashwin has endured an underwhelming campaign in the ongoing IPL 2021. The Delhi Capitals spinner has bowled only 3 overs in the last two matches. There have been question marks over his performance in the ongoing season. In IPL 2021, Ravichandran Ashwin has only managed to pick 5 wickets in 12 matches, while he also missed a few matches in the latter stage of the first leg of the tournament due to the Covid-19 crisis.
Former Indian opener, Gautam Gambhir expressed his concern over Ashwin’s form. He also stated that the upcoming match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be an ideal opportunity for him to come back into form as Delhi has a lot of left-handers in their squad. Qualifier 2 will be played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The slowness of the surface is likely to assist spinners like Ravi Ashwin.
“Delhi Capitals have not underutilized Ashwin because he has not looked that convincing. So hopefully he will do the job because, on a wicket like Sharjah against left-handers, DC will back him.”
Former Indian cricketer, Sanjay Manjrekar earlier pointed out that Ashwin has been trying a lot of things in a bid to take wickets. He suggested he focus on his classic off-spin to reap rewards.
“We always say, the man of his stature, you cannot leave him out of an IPL team or T20 cricket, he’s just a different bowler. When he plays IPL or T20 cricket, he just becomes this finger spinner with variations and I’d much rather have a conventional off-spinner.”
Delhi Capitals are all set to face Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. They are coming in the match on the back of a defeat against CSK. Delhi would be hoping to win the game on Wednesday and take revenge from CSK in the final of IPL 2021.
