Jason Roy is now part of the ‘orange army’ after Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) confirmed roping in the England opening batsman as the replacement for Australian batting allrounder Mitchell Marsh after the latter pulled out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Marsh cited his inability to cope up with the extended bio-secure bubble conditions for his decision.
SRH broke the news on their official Twitter handle and wrote, “Due to personal reasons, Mitchell Marsh will be opting out of #IPL2021. We would like to welcome @JasonRoy20 to the #SRHFamily!”
According to sources, the 2016 IPL title winners acquired Roy for his base price of INR 2 crore after Marsh confirmed his decision to pull out of the tournament. Roy, who made his IPL debut in 2017 for Gujrat Lions and joined Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) the following season, was released by Delhi Capitals ahead of this season’s auction. Additionally, he went unsold in the IPL 2021 auction.
