In what has come as a big blow to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Deepak Chahar is likely to miss a major chunk of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), IPL 2022. Chahar suffered a quadriceps injury during the third T20 international between India and West Indies. According to the latest reports, the CSK pacer might take some weeks to recover fully and, thus, he is likely to miss the upcoming edition of the tournament.
The CSK pacer is currently undergoing rehabilitation at National Cricket Academy and the franchises are awaiting the final assessment from the academy. For the unversed, Deepak Chahar was the second-most expensive player at the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions. Chennai Super Kings bought his services at a whopping amount of INR 14 crores.
In the last couple of years, Deepak Chahar’s stocks in white-ball cricket have seen a massive rise. He has made a sharp improvement not only with the ball but with the bat as well. At the auctions, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Chennai Super Kings all showed interest in his services. The latter eventually bought him for a whopping amount. It is worth mentioning that this was the first time CSK shelled more than 10 crores to buy the services of a player in an auction.
CSK bought him for the first time at IPL 2018 auctions for a price of INR 80 lakhs. In a very short space of time, he reached great heights and also became a vital part of India’s T20 side.
