IPL 2022: The newly introduced franchise in IPL, Lucknow has announced its official name ahead of the 2022 edition of the tournament. The Lucknow franchise owned by RP Sanjiv Goenka Group has been named as the ‘Lucknow Super Giants’.
The franchise owner, Sanjiv Goenka shared the news via Video Message posted on the Lucknow franchise’s social media platforms on Monday.
“Thank you so much for your overwhelming response to the ‘Naam banao naam kamao’ contest. Lakhs and lakhs of people responded, based on that we are very happy to choose the name for the Lucknow IPL team,” Goenka said in his message while revealing the team name.
“And the name that we have chosen based on your recommendations is Lucknow Super Giants. Thank you so much for your response and love and continue to give us your blessings in the future as well.” The franchise owners had launched a consumer engagement campaign on social media on January 3 to decide the name of the new IPL side.
For those of you who don’t know, KL Rahul has been appointed as the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants for the 2022 edition of the tournament. He has been bought for a whopping amount of INR 17 Crores. Besides, the franchise has also acquired the services of Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi for 9.4 crores and 4 crores respectively.
Andy Flower has already been named the coach of the Lucknow franchise while former India batter Gautam Gambhir will serve as the mentor of the franchise.
The franchise currently has acquired the services of three players. They will make the rest of the purchase at the Mega Auctions, which is scheduled to be held on 12 and 13th February 2022. As many as 1214 players have registered for the auctions. The salary purse of all the franchises has been increased to 90 crores.
With so much money in the bank, it will be interesting to see how efficiently they build their squad for the 2022 edition of the tournament.
