Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star all-rounder Moeen Ali is all set to join the CSK squad on Thursday (March 24) ahead of the IPL 2022 opener and will be available for selection in the team from CSK’s second game onwards. The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise verified that he has received his visa paperwork to fly to India.
“He picked his papers yesterday and is ready to fly,” said his father Munir Ali. “He will arrive in Mumbai in the evening and will straight away go into isolation,” said Kasi Viswanathan, the CEO of the franchise.
However, the visa approval did not arrive in time for the player to play in the team’s first game. Although Moeen will be arriving in Mumbai on Thursday, he would be missing out on CSK’s first game, which would be against the runner’s-up of the last season Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, March 26, since he has to serve a mandatory quarantine of three days.
“He will not be available for the first game against Kolkata Knight Riders but we are happy that all the uncertainty has ended,” said the franchise CEO.
The IPL begins on Saturday (March 26), with the Super Kings playing the opening game as the reigning champions.
According to Cricbuzz, the English all-rounder requested the travel documents on February 28, but the visa took more than three weeks to arrive, despite the player being a frequent visitor to India, having participated in the past three IPLs.
Ali was retained by the franchise during the IPL 2022 mega auction due to his all-around performance last season, which played a pivotal role in helping CSK lift their fourth IPL title. He amassed 357 runs in 15 innings while picking up six wickets in the matches.
CSK will take on the newly introduced team, Lucknow Super Giants in their second game of IPL 15 on March 31.
