Thursday morning came with good news for Mumbai Indians and Punjab kings as their prolific batsmen Suryakumar Yadav and English wicketkeeper-batsman Johnny Bairstow are available to play, respectively, in the ongoing IPL 2022.
Mumbai Indians lost its opening fixture from Delhi Capitals with 9 balls to spare although Punjab Kings won their first game against RCB. All thanks to a fire cameo by West Indian allrounder Odean Smith. The same made sure that his team get over the line by scoring 25 crucial runs in just 8 balls.
Suryakumar Yadav hailing from Mumbai itself has been a big name in IPL for a few years now. Surya was retained by Mumbai Indians at a whopping cost of 8 crores. Suryakumar has also represented the Indian team in both the white ball format. Mumbai Indian tried Punjab’s batsman AnmolPreet Singh at number 3.
The experiment didn’t work as AnmolPreet got out at just 8 runs. Mumbai must have missed his services in the first match as the middle order was unable to support Ishan Kishan’s 81* inning. Johnny Bairstow is returning from national duty where he was playing test series against Caribbeans in their own backyard. Although England lost the series by 1-0 Johnny Bairstow made 226 runs in 6 innings which tells us his recent form.
Now the hard-hitting batsman is available to play in the second match against Shreyas Ayer’s KKR on 1st April. Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Bhanuka Rajapaksa kept the wickets in the first match and also made a quick-fire 43.
Suryakumar will make his way in 11 at the cost of AnmolPreet Singh and Mumbai’s staff must have huge expectations from him but it will not be easy for Johnny Bairstow to directly make a way in playing 11 as there are only 4 foreign players allowed in starting 11 and Punjab is unlikely to change a winning combination.
