IPL Auction 2022: The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning on introducing new changes to the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL). Till now there were eight teams in the tournament indulging in a double round-robin format.
However, this time BCCI is set to introduce two new IPL teams ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. The mega auction was supposed to take place just before the IPL 2021 season but the event was postponed due to the pandemic.
As per the sources, Ahmedabad and Trivandram are two probable states for sealing the spots of the two new IPL teams. This could be the second time these two states would get to play in the IPL as franchisees. Kochi Tuskers and Gujarat Lions have previously played in the tournament in the previous editions.
Franchises get to spend more during IPL Auction 2022
IPL Franchises will also get to spend more during the mega auction this time, as the BCCI has also announced the increase in the spending limit. Earlier, the franchises were allowed to purse out 85 crores at the most, but the new change would enable them to pocket out additional 5 crores (INR).
Changes in player retention
BCCI has also brought about changes in the retention and salaries of the retained players for IPL 2022. This enables all franchises to retain at least four players (two Indians, two overseas players/three Indian and one overseas player).
But that comes with a part of the calculation as Rs 15 cr, Rs 11 cr, and Rs 7 cr will be only permitted to spend when three players will be retained. And when retaining just two players, teams will only be permitted to spend Rs 12.5 cr and Rs 8.5 cr. While Rs. 12.5 crores will be allowed to spend when retaining just one player.
The mega auction is expected to take place in mid-December with live broadcasting of the event available on Star Sports Network.
