T20 World Cup: Following the surface of COVID-19 cases in the bio-bubble, the BCCI suspended the entire 14th season of IPL on Tuesday. That led to multiple speculations if India would host the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup this year.
One of the officials spoke with the ANI news agency and stated that the call on that will be taken in the month of July. Both ICC and BCCI will determine whether India is in a position to host the World Cup or it should be moved out of the country.
“We’re monitoring the situation and wait and watch is the best description at this stage. We probably wouldn’t go much beyond July as it’s a World Cup and they can’t be pulled off in a matter of weeks!” one of the BCCI officials stated.
However, BCCI is hopeful that the situation will get better with the roll-out of vaccines among the major population of the country..
“We are confident that the situation will improve in the coming days and the World Cup would go ahead in India as planned. We have zeroed in on nine venues and preparations are on and considering that we have quite a few more venues across the country, we can prepare back up venues within the country itself so that we do not burden the health infrastructure for a particular state or another in the eventuality that the situation has not returned to normal by the time of the showpiece event,” a BCCI official told ANI.
T20 World Cup possible venues:
In the last board meeting on April 16, the BCCI had proposed nine venues that would potentially host the T20 World Cup this year.
Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Dharamsala, Hyderabad and Lucknow were picked as potential venues for the tournament.
The BCCI is also looking for the another window before the T20 World Cup for completing the IPL 2021.
“We are looking for another window but at the moment we can’t say when it would be rescheduled” IPL chairman had stated.
