Ireland vs Netherlands: Netherlands snatched a dramatic one-run victory from the mouth of Ireland in the opening encounter of the three match World Super League series between the two teams.
The Dutch posted a total of 195 on the board in Utrecht. All-rounder Timm van der Gugten’s crucial late knock of 49 runs helped the Dutch recover from 53-5.
In response, the Irish just fell short of one run as they managed to scored 194 runs in 50 overs. Ireland struggled at 11-3 in the beginning before the Irish legend Paul Sterling and all-rounder Simi Singh kept the scoreboard moving and managed to keep it alive till the last ball of the match but unfortunately fell short by 1 run in the end.
But the departure of Sterling at 69 put Ireland on 135-6 and Simi Singh’s run out for 45 runs at the beginning of the last over was extremely vital as the Irish chase fell just short.
Singh’s departure left Ireland at a spot of bother as they needed 10 runs off the final five balls but in the end Josh Little and Barry McCarthy could only manage to score eight runs as they suffered one of the closest of defeat by the narrowest of margins.
