Paul Stirling and Faheem Ashraf put a full dominant show with bat and ball respectively as Islamabad United registered their third victory this season. It was the 12th time on a row that the team chasing the target after winning the toss registered victory in the ongoing Pakistan Super League.
It was indeed an exceptional performance by the Islamabad bowlers as they restricted the Gladiators to 156/7 after 20 overs. Pacer Faheem Ashraf clearly looked unplayable as he overwhelmed Quetta’s batsmen by taking down three crucial scalps with his nasty deliveries.
He dismissed the in-form Faf du Plessis, followed by the Gladiators’ top-scorer and skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed on 54 runs and Azam Khan (4 runs). Hassan Ali was the second-best bowler due to his economical spell in which he took two wickets at the cost of 23 runs in four overs.
The struggling batting lineup of Gladiators found some inning saving knocks from Ben Cutting and Mohammad Nawaz who continued to mileage up the innings and took the team total to 156 runs.
Chasing 157 runs, United openers Alex Hales and Paul Stirling put up a commanding start and compiled 75 runs at the end of the powerplay. They lost their first wicket in the form of Alex Hales in 5.5 overs, but his job of giving a solid start was done to an extent.
Stirling then continued with his attacking approach and cleared as many balls to the boundary, along with two delightful sixes into the crowd. He finally got out after scoring 56 runs off 33 deliveries, but till then, he had already pulled his side towards the winning territory.
Subsequently, Islamabad United won the game with three overs remaining and six wickets in hand. With this win, they climbed to the second spot while Faheem Ashraf lifted the player of the match award for his superb spell 4-11-3.
