Jamaica Tallawahs are currently positioned at number three on the points table with 4 wins in 8 matches. They have two games remaining and would be want to win both of them. Interestingly, both the games are against Guyana Amazon Warriors. Jamaica is coming into the contest on the back of a 55-run win against Saint Lucia Kings. The last game saw significant contributions from the top order. Opener Kennar Lewis set the tone for a high score as he smashed the second-fastest half-century of the tournament. He scored 56 runs off just 24 balls to give the team a flying start. Shamarh Brooks (34 off 29) and Rovman Powell (22 off 20) also made vital contributions in the middle overs.
Andre Russell’s 31 off 15 increased the scoring rate further, while Imad Wasim’s 10-ball 27 helped the team score a massive 211-run total in the first innings. Saint Lucia Kings also made a blistering start in the second innings. A Fletcher’s 13-ball 30, Roston Chase’s 30 off 17 and Mark Deyal’s 17-ball 33 helped the team reach 100 runs in just 8 overs. However, Carlos Brathwaite’s two wickets in two balls in the ninth over shifted the game completely.
Saint Lucia Kings lost the plot thereafter as no player stepped up in the latter half of the innings. Saint Lucia, eventually, got all out on just 156 runs, thereby handing Jamaica their fourth win of this season. Andre Russell and Carlos Brathwaite picked two wickets each, while Imad Wasim claimed three.
On the other hand, Guyana Amazon Warriors are coming off a win in their last game against Saint Lucia Kings. They also have four wins in 8 games and would be keen to win the next two. In the last game, Guyana posted 151 runs in the first innings, thanks to an outstanding 77-run knock from Brandon King. There was a little contribution from other batsmen, though.
Imran Tahir and Gudakesh Motie led the way with the ball and didn’t allow Saint Lucia Kings to get a good start in the second innings. Motie bowled a great spell of 2 for 12 in 4 overs, while Tahir picked 1 for 32. Odean Smith also picked two crucial wickets in the middle order and denied Saint Lucia’s hopes of winning the game. Faf du Plessis and Co. could manage 134 runs in the second innings, falling 17 runs short of the target.
