Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has roped in in Australian fast bowler Jason Behrendorff as the replacement for pacer Josh Hazelwood.
The franchise broke the news on Friday through their official Twitter handle and wrote, “Jason is all of us right now! J Behrendorff joins the super lion up for this #Summerof2021!”
This would be Behrendorff’s second IPL venture after having played for the Mumbai Indians in 2019. The 30-year old featured in five matches during that season and picked up an equal number of wickets.
Jason Behrendorff, who has featured in 11 ODI matches and 7 T20Is with 16 wickets and 7 wickets under his belt, respectively, hasn’t featured in any international matches for two years. He last played an ODI in July 2019 against England. However, the southpaw has been a consistent player in the Big Bash League (BBL). In the recently concluded season of BBL, he picked up 16 wickets at an economy rate of 7.03.
Josh Hazelwood earlier retracted from this year’s IPL stating he wanted to charge himself up and prepare for international assignments of the Australian team. The 30-year old, who has been shuttling between various bio-bubbles since August last year, made the decision giving impetus to his national duties. He stated he needed to rest and refresh himself and prepare for the long winter ahead, which includes the Ashes among the other matches.
CSK will begin their IPL 2021 campaign on April 10, the second match of the tournament, in a match against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium of Mumbai.
