Jason Roy, England’s batter, has been given a two-match penalty that is postponed for a year if he behaves well, and he has also been ordered to pay a fine of GBP 2,500 fine by March 31.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has, however, not stated the reasons for the sanctions imposed on Jason Roy but did state that he has been stationed after he “admitted a charge of conducting himself in a manner which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket or which may bring the game of cricket, the ECB and himself into disrepute, in breach of ECB Directive 3.3”.
Typically, the Cricket Discipline Committee (CDC), the authority in charge of disciplinary processes, publishes detailed written justifications for every action taken. However, its instructions enable them to avoid doing so if the CDC finds that for whatever reason, it is acceptable that they should only be disclosed in part or not published at all.
“Following a full disciplinary hearing at which all available evidence was heard, the Disciplinary Panel ruled that Mr Roy should: (i) be suspended from the next two England matches for which he is eligible for selection, but that such suspension be suspended for 12 months dependent on good behaviour; and (ii) pay a fine of GBP 2,500 by March 31 2022,” said the statement.
Roy last appeared for England in January, when they were defeated in a T20I series against the West Indies. He then played in the PSL for the Quetta Gladiators, but dropped out of his IPL stint with the Gujarat Titans, claiming that the three years of playing in pandemic-enforced bio-bubbles had taken a toll on him and that he needed to spend time with his family.
